Floorball friends, are you ready to transform your shot from "meh" to "wow"? Today, we'll reveal all the secrets to mastering the art of shooting in floorball, with a dash of humor and lots of passion!

For the article we took inspiration from the official IFF guide which can be found here

The Floorball Shot: A Fundamental Not to Be Underestimated

If there's one thing you absolutely must train in floorball, it's the shot. Forget about spectacular dribbling and feints (for now!): without an effective shot, your team will struggle to score. But don't worry, we're here to guide you through the intricacies of shooting techniques, making learning a fun and engaging experience.

The 5 Types of Floorball Shots: Which One to Choose?

In floorball, there's no such thing as an "absolutely perfect" shot. Each type of shot has its pros and cons, and the choice depends on the game situation. Here's an overview of the 5 most common types of shots:

  • Drag Shot:

    • The classic of classics, ideal when you have time to aim and load your shot. Imagine being a painter painting a perfect trajectory towards the goal.

    • Execution: Weight on the back foot, blade in contact with the floor, release of the ball at the level of the front foot.

    • OK: Precision and the ability to vary the shooting angle.

    • KO: Quite predictable, the goalkeeper might guess your intentions.

  • Wrist Shot:

    • The king of fast and precise shots, perfect for tight game situations near the goal. Imagine being a sniper hitting the target with a sharp and decisive shot.

    • Execution: Chest facing the goal, release of the ball near the front foot.

    • OK: Speed and precision, ideal for surprising the goalkeeper.

    • KO: Less powerful than other shots.

  • Forehand Shot:

    • A hybrid between the wrist shot and the slap shot, for those who love the middle ground. Imagine being a golfer hitting the ball with a fluid and controlled movement.

    • Execution: Ball in front of the body, hit with the heel of the blade.

    • Pro: Versatility and the ability to vary the power of the shot.

    • Cons: Less fast and precise than the wrist shot.

  • Slap Shot:

    • Pure spectacle, the shot of the "bombers" of floorball. Imagine being a lightning bolt striking the opponent's goal.

    • Execution: Wide backward swing of the stick, sharp hit on the ball.

    • OK: Power and unpredictability, difficult for the goalkeeper to save.

    • KO: Requires space and time to execute.

  • Backhand Shot:

    • The wild card of the situation, to be used when you're in an unfavorable position. Imagine being a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

    • Execution: Sharp hit with the back of the blade, even with the back facing the goal.

    • OK: Surprise effect and the ability to shoot even with one hand.

    • KO: Difficult to control.

Extra Tips for a Champion Shot:

  • Maintain blade-floor contact: Fundamental for a precise and powerful shot.

  • Always look at the target: Forget about the ball, focus on the goal.

  • Practice, practice, practice: Practice makes perfect, even in floorball.

  • Have fun!: Floorball is a game, so don't take yourself too seriously.

We hope this guide will be helpful for you to improve your floorball shot. Remember, the key is constant practice and the desire to have fun!
